Cole Konrad

Cole Marshall Konrad (born April 2, 1984 in Appleton , Wisconsin ) is a retired American wrestler and current mixed martial arts fighter. He was the 2005 Pan American heavyweight free style champion.

Career

Cole Konrad attended a high school in New London , where he began wrestling at a young age. He later moved to Freedom High School in Freedom , where he continued this sport and also began with American football . He initially wrestled in both styles, the Greco-Roman and the free style. In 2002 he was named a Wisconsin heavyweight high school wrestler. He was also the American junior heavyweight champion that year in both the free and Greco-Roman style.

From 2003, Cole Konrad studied at the University of Minnesota . He also belonged to the so-called "Golden Gophers", the wrestling club of this university. His trainer there was J. Robinson. In 2004 he finished 4th at the NCAA Championships (USA Student Championship) in free style in heavyweight. In 2005 he finished 2nd and in 2006 he won that title with a remarkable victory over Steve Mocco . Finally he won this championship in 2007.

In 2005 the stocky and powerful wrestler started his international career. He was it in Guatemala City Pan American heavyweight champion before Yonsy Sanches from Venezuela and the multiple medalist at world championships Alexis Rodríguez Valera from Cuba . In 2006, Cole Konrad tried to qualify for the World Championship, but only finished 3rd in the US Trials behind Tolly Thompson and Steve Mocco. In the same year he won a bronze medal at the University World Championships in Ulaanbaatar in the heavyweight division.

In 2007, Cole Konrad was runner-up in the heavyweight division behind Thomas Rowlands , but ahead of Steve Mocco and Tervel Dlagnev . Cole Konrad, who finished his studies with a masters degree in sports management in 2007 and faced economic problems after a scholarship no longer existed, took part in the Olympic trials in 2008, but was no longer in good shape there and already divorced in the preliminary round. After these trials, he ended his wrestling career at the age of only 24 and signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings as an American football professional. Konrad now earns his living as a mixed martial arts fighter. As such, he mainly went to the organizer Bellator FC and held on October 14, 2010 a match record of seven wins and zero defeats.
