Colin Crowe

Sir Colin Tradescant Crowe , GCMG (born September 7, 1913 in Yokohama , Kanagawa Prefecture , Empire of Japan ; † July 19, 1999 ) was a British diplomat who was ambassador to Saudi Arabia between 1963 and 1964 and high commissioner from 1968 to 1970 in Canada and most recently Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations between 1970 and 1973 .

Life

Colin Tradescant Crowe, son of the diplomat Edward Thomas Frederick Crowe began after visiting the Stowe School studying the history of the modern era at Oriel College of the University of Oxford , where he graduated with honors. He then entered the diplomatic service (HM Diplomatic Service) Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Foreign Office ) and found in the following years many different uses of foreign missions and the Foreign Ministry. He served in the State Department from 1953 to 1956 as head of the unit for the Far East (Head of Far Eastern Department, Foreign Office) and has been called for its local services in 1956 Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George excellent (CMG). After other functions he was 1959-1961 Chargé (charge d'affaires) and acting head of the embassy in Egypt and then from 1961 to 1963 Deputy Permanent Representative at the United Nations in New York City .

On June 8, 1963 Colin Crowe was beaten Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG), so that from then on he carried the suffix "Sir". He then became Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in 1963 and held this position until he was replaced by Morgan Man in 1964. After he was a Fellow at St Antony's College, University of Oxford from 1964 to 1965 , he held between 1965 and 1968 in Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the position of Chief of Administration, Diplomatic Service . He then succeeded Henry Lintott as High Commissioner in Canada in 1968 and remained in this post until 1970, when Peter Telford Hayman was his successor there.

Most recently, Sir Colin Crowe took over the post of Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations from Hugh Foot, Baron Caradon in 1970 and held this position until his retirement in 1973. He was then succeeded by Donald Maitland . He was then elevated to the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG) on June 2, 1973 . He was married to Bettina Lum from 1938 until her death in 1983.
