Colin Kirkham

Colin Kirkham (born October 30, 1944 in Nottingham ) is a retired British marathon runner .

In 1968 he won the East Riding & Yorkshire Marathon and finished eighth in the English Marathon Championship .

In 1970 he finished fourth in the Polytechnic Marathon and fourth in the Maxol Marathon, where he stayed below the 2:20 hour mark for the first time with 2:18:59 hours.

In 1971 he finished fifth in the Maxol Marathon in 2:15:21 hours. As the third best Briton, he qualified for the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki , where he was fourth in 2:16:22 hours.

The following year he finished fourth in the Maxol Marathon with his personal best of 2:15:17 hours. As the third best Briton he was nominated for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where he finished 20th in 2:21:55 hours.

In 1973 he won the Athens Spring Marathon in 2:16:46 hours and was third in the English Marathon Championship in 2:15:25 hours.

At the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974, he finished eighth for England in 2:16:07 hours.

1975 followed third places in the Amsterdam marathon and in the English marathon championship a sixth place in the Košice marathon .

In 1977 he was runner-up in the English Marathon Championship and the Enschede Marathon . In 1979 he won the Sandbach Marathon and came third in Enschede. In 1981 he won the Harlow Marathon and the fifth Tiberias Marathon , and in 1982 the Bermuda Marathon.
