Coll ( Scottish Gaelic : Cola also Eilean Cholla ) is an island in the Inner Hebrides in the Argyll and Bute Council Area in Scotland . It is located 9 km northwest of the Isle of Mull . Coll is about 19 kilometers long and almost 5 kilometers wide. The highest point is the Ben Hogh in the central west of the island, which reaches a height of 106 m. Like the neighboring island of Tiree , Coll is more temperate than its location on the Scottish west coast thanks to the Gulf Stream - Coll and Tiree are among the places with the most hours of sunshine in the whole of the United Kingdom . 195 people lived on Coll in 2011. The main settlement is Arinagour .
The island is rich in prehistoric places:
- To caisteal
- Breachacha crannog
- Thun to Achaidh
- Dùn Anlaimh
- Dùn Beic
- Dùn Dubh
- Dùn Morbhaidh
- Totamore dun
- Totronald
- Arnabost and Port-na-Luing basement
The more than ten crannógs on the island of Coll were examined by Mark Holley in the 1990s.
