history
In the autumn of 1978 a vocal ensemble was founded in the Catholic university community in Linz , which over time grew to a choir of around 90 members. Since October 1992 this choir has been called Collegium Vocale Linz .
musical direction
Josef Habringer , the founder and longstanding director of the choir, received his musical education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. He was a teacher for voice training and choral conducting at the Diocesan Conservatory, head of the church music department of the Diocese of Linz and speaker on numerous courses for choral and vocal music. He is the leader of the vocal ensemble Voices and since January 1st 2006 Domkapellmeister at the Marien-Dom in Linz .
literature
According to the size of the ensemble, works of the Romantic period and contemporary compositions form the focus of the musical work. The choir also sings spirituals and gospels and choral pieces from pieces that can be assigned to popular music .
The highlights of the ensemble's concert life were the performance of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff in 1999 , the Great Mass in C minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Te Deum by Anton Bruckner in 2003 . The 25th anniversary concert with a cappella choir literature and the Te Deum for choir and wind ensemble by Petr Eben took place on June 18, 2004 in the Friedenskirche in Linz. The anniversary concert for the 40th anniversary took place on May 13, 2018 in the Marble Hall of St. Florian Monastery.
Great works of choral literature have been performed several times:
- Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. IX
- Anton Bruckner's Mass in E minor
- Georg Friedrich Handel's Messiah
- Joseph Haydn's creation (among others in one of the dancers of the Linzcr Landestheater together with 50 children in the Mariendom Linz) as well as the Stabat mater
- Franz Schubert's Mass in E flat major
In addition to the musical mastery of these major works, it is time and again the a cappella choir literature that makes up the focus of the choir's rehearsals and concerts. In October 2013, for example, a concert in the Ursuline Church called "Shining night" was performed exclusively with works by Morten Lauridsen .
