history

The emergence of Colonia Fabricii is closely related to the history of the Tomeşti municipality , on the area of which the settlement was founded, and the history of the glass factory around which it was built.

The Tomeşti glass factory was founded in 1820 by Anton Pfantzels, former tenant of a glass factory from Hungary . Impressed by the wealth of mineral resources ( quartz , lime ), he bought the Tomeşti - Luncani estate from Krassó-Szörény county and built a glass factory. Pfantzels brought glassblowers from the countries of the Habsburg Monarchy , who settled here and, together with the local workers, founded the colony around the factory. In 1846 it was owned by Josef Losch from Austria .

In 1948 the factory was nationalized and modernized, which had a positive effect on the town's economic development. The construction of apartment blocks provided the necessary living space for the newly settled. After 1989, however, the glass factory had to be closed, which resulted in a huge economic setback.
