history

In 1954, the nurse Elise Sörensen developed the first plastic ostomy bag with self-adhesive zinc oxide surfaces for her sister Thora. It consisted of a two-part system principle, which is still used today, a bag for the excretions and a ring that can be adjusted to the skin.

Coloplast A / S was founded in Denmark in 1957 in cooperation with the plastics manufacturer Louis-Hansen .

In 1983, parallel to the IPO, the sales office in Germany ( Hamburg ) was founded, initially with 11 employees. Over time, the number of employees in the German subsidiary has risen to over 600 to date.

Around 90 percent of all product developments are based on suggestions from customers.
