H. Lundbeck A / S (known as Lundbeck ) is a Danish pharmaceutical company headquartered in Copenhagen . The company was temporarily listed in the OMX Copenhagen 20 share index. Lundbeck produces various pharmaceutical products and has significant international market shares in the indications schizophrenia , depression , Parkinson's disease and sleep disorders.

history

The company was founded on August 14, 1915 by Hans Lundbeck. At that time it was still a trading company that traded in biscuits, confectionery, sweeteners, aluminum foil, cameras, photo paper, etc. and rented vacuum cleaners.

Lundbeck entered the pharmaceutical market in 1924 by importing medicines and cosmetic articles from companies based in other European and American countries. Towards the end of 1930, Lundbeck began producing its own medicinal products and founded its own research department. It was also produced during World War II, although production remained limited due to the lack of raw materials.

After 1945, Lundbeck expanded and became a large international pharmaceutical company with a focus on the manufacture of drugs for the treatment of mental disorders and diseases of the central nervous system. In 2007, the operating income amounted to 1.47 billion euros.

In 2009, Lundbeck completed its business with the acquisition of Ovation Pharmaceuticals, a leading US biopharmaceutical company founded in 2000 by Jeffrey Aronin and E. Bernstein.

Core products are aripiprazole , vortioxetine , droxidopa , clobazam and brexpiprazole .

Lundbeck also produces pentobarbital (trade name Nembutal ) and has the exclusive license to manufacture pentobarbital in the USA. This drug was selected by the United States to be used as a substitute for thiopental for the execution of prisoners sentenced to death.
