Sébastien Maté (born September 19, 1972 in Mont-de-Marsan ) is a former French football player .

Career

Maté's career began in 1997 in the French Division 2 at Stade Briochin . He stayed there for a season before moving a class lower to AS Cherbourg in the summer of 1998 , where he played 33 games. But even there it only lasted one season and he moved to Limoges FC for the following season within the league and 12 months later to Stade Laval back in the D2. For the 2000/01 season he tried again in the second highest French division, but played only one league game for Amiens SC .

It was only when he moved to Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien in the highest amateur league, the CFA , in July 2002 that his years of traveling stopped and he completed 119 games in the following four and a half years.

During the winter break of the 2006/07 season, he decided to move to Ligue 1 when he signed with the traditional French club Olympique Marseille for half a year . There he was only number four behind Cédric Carrasso , Sébastien Hamel and Mehdi Sennaoui . However, his contract expired at the end of the second half of the season. After this was no longer renewed, Maté decided to move to the lower class club AS Aix .
