Chr. Hansen A / S is a Danish biotechnology company based in Hørsholm (Denmark). The company was founded in Copenhagen in 1874 by the pharmacist Christian DA Hansen and is listed in the OMX Copenhagen 20 share index. Chr. Hansen supplies food cultures and enzymes for the food industry, as well as microbial solutions for plant and animal health. Chr. Hansen also produces food coloring . The company has two locations in Germany, these are in Nienburg / Weser and Pohlheim . The flavor business was sold to Symrise in 2008 .

Chr. Hansen went public for the first time in 1979, but ten years later the Lundbeck Foundation took over all A shares. This then became the sole shareholder of the company. In 2005, the French investment company PAI partners became the owner of Chr. Hansen Holding A / S, which listed the company for the second time in 2010. The largest shareholder today is Novo A / S with a share of 26.1%.
