action

The film plot consists of a single setting . On the deck of what is believed to be a Greek warship , an officer commands a crew of sailors . The ship heels in heavy seas from port to starboard . The officer searches the horizon with binoculars . A shot is fired from the on-board gun. Then the deck is hit by an enemy shell and a sailor is wounded.

Production notes, rediscovery of the lost film

In the catalog of Méliès Star Film Company, the film bears the number 110. The visual effect is created by a moving stage that simulates the upper deck of the warship and which, through its rocking movements, creates the illusion of swell. The film is one of a series of Méliès productions that deal with the Greco-Turkish War.

Combat naval en Grèce was considered lost for decades until it was rediscovered in 1988 by John Barnes (* 1920) at the British Film Institute . It turned out that it had been registered in the archive catalog under an incorrect title.
