Concord is a city in the US state of North Carolina , United States . It is located in the immediate catchment area of Charlotte . At the 2010 census , Concord had 79,235 residents. The US Census Bureau estimates the population in 2016 at around 90,000.

The city is home to the Charlotte Motor Speedway , the site of car races for several NASCAR racing series and is also home to the NASCAR team Hendrick Motorsports .
The main employer was the cigarette manufacturer Phillip Morris until the plant was closed .
Concord is the seat of government for Cabarrus County . The current mayor is Scott Padgett.
The historic city center around Union Street is characterized by impressive buildings that were constructed during the textile weddings.
Demographics
The 55,977 residents of Concord, determined in the 2000 census , lived in 20,962 households; including 14,987 families. The population density was 419 per km ². 22,485 residential units were recorded in the village. Among the population, 78.8% were White, 15.1% African American, 0.3% American Indian, 1.2% Asian, and 3.4% from other races; 1.2% said they belonged to several ethnic groups.
Of the 20,962 households, 35.2% had children under the age of 18; 23.6% were single households. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.08.
The population was distributed among 26.2% under 18 years of age, 8.9% between 18 and 24 years of age, 33.6% between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.2% between 45 and 64 years of age and 11.1% between 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years.
