Montreal International Musical Competition
The Montreal International Musical Competition ( French : Concours Musical International de Montréal ) is an international music competition for violin , piano and voice that is held annually in Montreal .
history
The music competition was founded in 2001 by the French-Canadian singer Joseph Rouleau and André Bourbeau and was held for the first time in 2002. The three disciplines of the competition - singing, violin and piano - are held alternately every three years. The first singing competition took place in 2002, followed by a violin competition in 2003 and a piano competition in 2004. André Bourbeau has been President of the Montreal International Musical Competition since January 2016 and Christiane LeBlanc is Executive & Artistic Director.
The next competition will take place from May 27, 2018 to June 7, 2018 as a singing competition. The judges then include Ben Heppner , Dame Kiri te Kanawa , Dame Felicity Lott , Warren Jones and François Leroux .
organization
Each competition consists of four rounds: In a preliminary round (based on video recordings) at least 24 participants in the competition are selected and invited to Montreal to participate. The winners of the competition will be determined through a quarter-final, a semi-final and a final. The winners receive cash prizes.
Many successful contemporary concert artists have taken part in the competition, including soprano Measha Brueggergosman , pianists Nareh Argamenyan and Beatrice Rana , bass-baritone Philippe Sly and violinist Benjamin Beilman .
Since May 7, 2004 the Montreal International Musical Competition has been a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions .
