The Congress Hotel am Stadtpark in Hanover is the hotel located directly on the city ​​park of the Lower Saxony state capital as part of the Hanover Congress Center (HCC). The Y- shaped high-rise building in the Zoo district can be found at Clausewitzstraße 6 in 30175 Hanover.

history

The Congress Hotel am Stadtpark was created in connection with the efforts of the Hanover city ​​administration at the beginning of the 1970s to upgrade the city hall and the hall buildings attached to it, such as the Niedersachsenhalle and the Eilenriedehalle, to a congress center. For this purpose the development plan 597 was drawn up, which became legally binding in August 1972. Against the resistance of numerous citizens, the Lower Saxon Heimatbund and many hoteliers , the hotel high-rise was built in the years from 1971 according to plans by the architect Kurt Haarstick and opened on August 29, 1974. The hotel was one of the most modern buildings in Europe when it was completed.

The building complex consisting of the city hall, exhibition and event buildings and the hotel directly in the main entrance area of ​​the city ​​park was merged into the Hanover Congress Centrum in 1980 .

The hotel is financed and managed by the Hotel am Stadtpark Beteiligungs-GmbH and has been equipped with modern demonstration technology for meetings and congresses. In 2013 the hotel was renovated and a new restaurant set up.

In 2015, the hotel hit the headlines nationwide because it canceled room reservations made by AfD members who wanted to travel to the federal party conference. The reason given was the safety of guests and employees in view of possible confrontations at the announced demonstrations.

Building description

The reinforced concrete building with its Y-shaped floor plan rises over 18 floors to a height of 56 m. The four-star hotel has 258 room units with a total of around 380 beds. The Panorama 17 fitness center with swimming pool and sauna is available to guests on the 17th floor of the hotel .
