Pietro Consagra
Pietro Consagra (born October 6, 1920 in Mazara del Vallo , Sicily , † July 16, 2005 in Milan ) was an Italian sculptor . In Italy he is considered the main representative of abstract art .
Life
Consagra studied from 1938 to 1944 at the Art Academy of Palermo and then moved to Rome . There he founded the abstract group "Forma 1" in 1947 with Piero Dorazio , Achille Perilli , Mino Guerrini , Giulio Turcato , Carla Accardi and Antonio Sanfilippo.
In the mid-1950s he became known for his abstract sculptures made of bronze and steel. In 1960 he won the international sculpture prize.
He took part in the Venice Biennale six times in 1952, 1954, 1956, 1960 and 1972 . His works were exhibited several times at the documenta in Kassel ( documenta II 1959 and documenta III 1964). Solo exhibitions were in the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles , in the Museo Cantonale d'Arte in Lugano , in the World House in New York and in the Galerie de France in Paris. He was awarded an Antonio Feltrinelli Prize for 1983.
Pietro Consagra died after a serious illness on July 16, 2005 in Milan.
