Constance Binney (born June 28, 1896 in New York City , † November 15, 1989 in Whitestone , Queens , New York City) was an American actress of the silent film era .

life and career

Constance Binney came from a respected family and was raised in Paris, among other places. With 16 films between 1918 and 1923, she had a short but still quite successful film career in Hollywood. The brunette, skinny actress was preferred as the leading lady , and she was seen in particular in film dramas . She starred alongside John Barrymore in The Test of Honor (1919) and starred in the Clemence Dane film A Bill of Divorcement alongside Fay Compton . Most of her films are now lost, only Erstwhile Susan and The Case of Becky are said to have survived in full. In addition to her film career, she was also active in four productions on Broadway between 1917 and 1924 .

Her sister Faire Binney (1900–1957) also became an actress, and the sisters also appeared together in front of the camera in Maurice Tourneurs Sporting Life . Constance Binney was married three times, each time to wealthy men. Her third marriage was from 1941 until the divorce in 1951 with the British pilot Leonard Chesire (1917-1992), who was celebrated as a war hero during World War II. In 1960 she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the film category. She died in November 1989 at the age of 93.
