Constantine Fitzgibbon

Constantine Fitzgibbon (born June 8, 1919 in Massachusetts , † March 25, 1983 in Dublin ) was an Irish historian , journalist and writer .

Life

Constantine Fitzgibbon grew up in England as the son of a Northern Irishman and an American . He studied at the University of Munich , the Sorbonne and Exeter College at the University of Oxford .

During World War II , he served in the British Army (Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry) from 1939 to 1942 , and then in the US Army until 1946 . After the war he is said to have turned down a job offer from the newly founded CIA . From 1947 he worked as a freelance writer. He moved to Ireland.

Two marriages resulted in a son and a daughter. From 1967 until his death he was married to the actress Marjorie Steele .
