Constanza Gerding Salas

Constanza Adriana Gerding Salas (born February 7, 1954 in Osorno ) is a Chilean linguist and translation scholar. She teaches and researches at the Universidad de Concepción and is head of the terminology research group there .

Life

Gerding-Salas first came into contact with foreign languages ​​when her parents enrolled her as a child at a German school in La Unión, Chile. From 1972 to 1977 she completed a teaching degree for English and taught for ten years at a university in Santiago de Chile , where bilingual secretaries were trained. Meanwhile , she completed her habilitation in English. In 1988 Gerding-Salas moved to Stockholm for four years , where she began working as a translator in the fields of business and law. Back in Chile, she devoted herself intensively to translation studies . She took part in practical courses and dealt with the problems and theories of translatology in self-study .

Teaching and research

In 1995 she was appointed to the Foreign Language Institute of the Universidad de Los Lagos to teach comparative linguistics , translation theory and English as a foreign language. In addition , she did her doctorate a short time later at the Faculty of Education of the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC).

Today she continues to work as a lecturer and occasionally as a guest lecturer in Germany, for example at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT) at the University of Leipzig . Her research interests include:
