Constanze Angela Krehl (born October 14, 1956 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician and has been a member of the European Parliament for the SPD in the Social Democratic Group in the EP since 1994 .

Life and work

Krehl has lived in Leipzig since 1957 , graduated from high school there in 1975 and then studied at the TU Dresden , which she left in 1980 as a computer scientist. Until 1984 she worked as a computer scientist in various data centers , after which she was no longer employed as a housewife for the next five years.

Political party

In autumn 1989 she got involved in the New Forum and joined the SPD the following January. She was a member of the board of the Saxon SPD until 1996 , then became deputy state chairman until 1999 and then until 2004 state chairwoman of the SPD Saxony. From 1999 to 2005 she was a member of the federal executive committee of the SPD.

MPs

From March 18, 1990 she was a member of the People's Chamber and in October 1990 she was a member of the Bundestag , to which she was a member until the end of the eleventh legislative period on December 20, 1990. From February 1991 to June 1994 she was an observer and since 1994 a member of the European Parliament .

From 1994 to 2002 Krehl was President of the Delegation for Relations between the European Parliament and Russia, a member until 2004 and a deputy member of the Committee on Budgets until 2014 . Krehl has been a member of the Regional Development Committee since 2004, where she is the coordinator for the S&D parliamentary group . Since 2019 she has been a deputy member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety .

Honors

In 1998 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
