Constanze Ruhm (* 1965 in Vienna , Austria ) is an Austrian contemporary video artist .

Life

Constanze Ruhm studied from 1987 to 1993 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Peter Weibel . In 1996/97 she was a visiting professor for visual media at the Offenbach am Main University of Design . In 2005/2006 she took over a professorship for film and video at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart. Since 2006 she has been a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the field of digital media .

Constanze Ruhm lives and works in Vienna and Berlin .

Works

Ruhm's most recent work Renewal of perspective consists of a series of 24 photographs of the original Paris locations of Jean-Luc Godard's film Vivre sa vie . The photographs are based on the original plot of the film, but the photographic still image shows settings that appear similar in the film, but do not appear completely identical. This effect is achieved by contrasting the original Godardian take from the film with the focus of the character. In this way, a perspective becomes visible that the film has not shown before - namely the perspective of the film character.
