Contoire ( Picard : Contoère) is a former northern French community and today's commune Déléguée with 439 inhabitants (2016) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The village is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier and belongs to the canton of Moreuil . It was merged with Pierrepont-sur-Avre and Hargicourt to form Commune nouvelle Trois-Rivières with effect from January 1, 2019 .

geography

Contoire is located on the right bank of the Avre , which flows into the former municipality of the Trois Doms , around 9.5 km south-southeast of Moreuil on the departmental roads D160 and D441. The D935 (former Route nationale 35 ) runs through the Hamel district below the mouth of the Trois Cathedral . The Marais de Contoire, located in the valley floor of the Avre, is part of the former municipality mark. A paper mill is located in the village.

history

A Merovingian burial site was found in the community. In the Middle Ages a fortress of the Counts of Flanders stood on Agumont Hill. Wool processing expanded from the 17th century. A paper mill had existed since the 18th century. The local chalk was also broken and processed. There was also a leper house with a chapel on the road to Amiens .

The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
