Cora (first name)
Cora is a female given name .
origin
Cora sometimes occurs as a short form of the female given names Coralie , Corinna , Cornelia or Cordula . Presumably it is actually a Latinized form of the Greek Κόρη ( Kórē ), an epithet of Persephone . The tradition of the name was perhaps founded by Jean-François Marmontel with his colonial novel Les Incas (1777), in which a Peruvian sun priestess of this name plays a central role. Marmontel's novel subsequently provided the material for numerous opera librettos.
