Cord Bonow , also Curdt , Kord , Konrad or Kurt von Bonow († 1417 or 1419 in Groß Kiesow ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman , vicar general of the Bishop of Cammin and councilor of the dukes of Pomerania . He is best known for the conflict with the city of Stralsund , which culminated in the Papenbrand thom Sunde .

Life

Cord Bonow came from the Rügen noble family Bonow . Kosegarten suspected that Conradus Bonow de ruya was enrolled in the law faculty of the University of Prague in 1389 . He was Licentiate of Law and Archdeacon of Tribsees . He exercised his spiritual position of power as the supreme lord of the church in Stralsund in the name of the bishop of Schwerin . In 1407 he got into a dispute with Stralsund because of offerings, which is why he left the city, returned with an army and had the Stralsund Feldmark plundered. The result of the violent acts committed was an uprising by the Stralsund citizens against the church authorities, the so-called Papenbrand thom Sunde, which caused a conflict between Stralsund and the diocese of Schwerin that lasted for years.

After 1410 he became vicar general of the bishop of Cammin , Magnus von Sachsen-Lauenburg . In 1413 he signed a formal alliance with the Teutonic Order against Duke Bogislaw VIII of Pomerania , who withheld various castles and lands from the Cammin monastery.

He served as a councilor to Duke Wartislaw VIII and in 1415 was one of the negotiators in the settlement of the dispute with the city of Greifswald . After the Duke's death, he headed the Regency Council for the Duke's underage sons and nephews and gained great influence with the Dowager Duchess Agnes. At the end of 1416 he traveled with a delegation to Berlin to receive a mortgage note from the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich I for the release of the Uckermark, which was occupied by Pomerania . In 1417 or 1419 he was slain by Land Marshal Degener Buggenhagen , who was also a member of the Regency Council.
