The Cordeaux River is a river in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales . It is a tributary of the Nepean River , which flows into the Hawkesbury River .

The source is on the western slopes of the New South Wales Coast Mountains at Kembla Heights , about ten kilometers west of Wollongong . The upper course of the river is dammed to Lake Cordeaux . Below the dam, the river flows in a north-westerly direction, where it joins the Avon River south of Wilton . About a kilometer below this mouth , the Cordeaux River flows into the Nepean River.

In total, the river is a little more than 28 kilometers long.

It is an important source of water for the greater Sydney area . The water is collected in the four reservoirs of the Upper Nepean System .
