Corine Spier-Rottschäfer (born May 8, 1938 in Hoorn ; † September 24, 2020 ; born Corine Rottschäfer ) was a Dutch photo model and a beauty queen . In 1959 she was crowned Miss World . For over 40 years she was director of Corine's Agency , the first professional modeling agency in the Benelux countries.

Career

Beauty queen

Rottschäfer was born in Hoorn in the province of Noord-Holland and grew up in Amsterdam . At the age of 19 she was elected Miss Holland in 1957 . On June 26, 1957, she was the first Dutch woman to win the Miss Europe 1957 election in Baden-Baden . Miss Finland Marita Lindahl came second and was crowned Miss World in November 1957. Third place went to Miss Germany, Gerti Daub from Hamburg . 15 women took part in the competition.

On July 26, 1958, Rottschäfer took part in Long Beach ( California ) in the election for Miss Universe. In the run-up she was one of the biggest favorites, but had to be content with a place among the semi-finalists. In the end, Miss Colombia won the election.

On November 10, 1959, Rottschäfer was one of 37 participants in the Miss World election and was the first Dutch woman to win this title. Miss Peru came second, Miss Israel third.

Later career

After winning the Miss World election in 1959, Rottschäfer worked as a globally sought-after model. In 1962 she married the architect and later politician Edo Spier , with whom she had two children. In the second half of the 1960s she caused a sensation when, as a woman, she founded the first professional modeling agency in the Benelux countries. Corine's Agency has long been a leading model agency at home and abroad. In 2002 Rottschäfer retired.
