Cornelis Adrianus van Enschut (born January 21, 1778 in Arnhem , † August 2, 1835 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch legal scholar.

Life

The son of Willem Adriaan van Enschut (born November 26, 1741 in Arnhem; July 21, 1825 ibid) and Helena Bohmer (also: Beumer, * around 1740 in Arnhem; † January 14, 1823 in Arnhem), had the school in his hometown visited. On January 15, 1797 he enrolled to study law at the University of Harderwijk , where Cornelis Willem de Rhoer , Joan Melchior Kemper and Seerp Gratama were his teachers. With the treatise De Imputatione , he received his doctorate there on June 26, 1801, and then found a position as a lawyer in Arnhem. On June 11, 1806 he was appointed professor of natural, international and constitutional law at the University of Harderwijk, which he took up on June 16, 1807 with the speech Oratio inauguralis de utilitate disciplinae juris naturalis nostra imprimis aetate (Harderwijk 1807). There he was rector of the then university in 1808 and experienced the closure of the institution in 1811.

For a few years he worked again in Arnhem and was appointed by royal decision on October 16, 1815 to professor of state, international and criminal law, as well as the legal encyclopedia at the University of Groningen . On February 20, 1821, he received a call to the University of Utrecht , which task he took up on September 26, 1821 and held his introductory speech on March 22, 1822 De humanae indolis cognitione, legum de criminibus et condendarum et exsequendarum subsidio . He also participated in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the Alma Mater in 1830/31 . For health reasons he retired on January 1, 1835 and died that same year. In literary terms it only appeared with the work Over de bevoegdheid der Markgenootschappen, om de Markgronden te bevrijden van het weiden van het vee uit de aangrenzende buurtschappen (Groningen 1818). Rather, its importance lies in academic teaching.
