Cornelius Jasper Maas (born July 15, 1991 in Augsburg ) is a German handball player who is currently under contract with the Baden-Württemberg upper division club SG H2Ku Herrenberg. The backcourt player became world champion with the German national junior team in 2011.
Career
Cornelius Maas was born in Augsburg and grew up in Darmstadt in southern Hesse . Maas played for JSG Crumstadt / Goddelau until 2006 and in the same year switched to TV Groß-Zimmer, where the then trainer Ante Pralas turned out to be a key supporter. From 2007 to 2009 Maas played for the handball performance center Großwallstadt, where he gained experience in the B and A youth regional leagues.
At the same time as his last year in the A-youth, Maas was in the squad of the southern regional division TV Kirchzell . In the following, he received a double play right and was able to gain a foothold in men's handball for the first time at SG Leutershausen . In 2008/2009 Maas was German runner-up with the A-youth of HBLZ Großwallstadt and was able to celebrate promotion to the regional league with SG Leutershausen. However, he himself climbed two leagues and joined the southern second division TUSPO Obernburg from 2009 to 2011 . In 2011 the handball player already received double play rights for the Bavarian first division team TV Großwallstadt . He has been under contract with TV 1893 Neuhausen since the 2013/14 season . In the summer of 2016 he moved to the upper division SG H2Ku Herrenberg . In the summer of 2018 he returned to TV 1893 Neuhausen.
In Greece , the handball player took part in the World Cup with the German junior national team in the summer of 2011. The team succeeded in winning the title there and Cornelius Maas played a key role. After the final, the former national coach Horst Bredemeier said that Maas was one of the four best players on the field. The 2011/12 season brought another highlight with the debut in the men's national team. With the B selection, Cornelius Maas completed his first two international matches against Denmark at the beginning of April (26:24 and 28:26). As a playmaker , he scored the most goals in each of the two games with six and five goals.
