Horst Bredemeier (born March 31, 1952 in Minden ) is a German handball official and former handball trainer and handball player .
player
Bredemeier was active as a player in the top division team of Grün-Weiß Dankersen .
Trainer
During the 1978/79 season he replaced the Croatian Vinko Dekaris as coach at Grün-Weiß Dankersen , making him the youngest club coach of all time. At the end of the season, the DHB Cup victory was also a first major success. After the 1980/81 season , however, he rose with GWD in the 2nd Bundesliga . After the direct resurgence, Bredemeier switched to the second division club TBV Lemgo and also said goodbye after only one season with the promotion. He joined second division TuRU Düsseldorf , with whom he also immediately rose to the Bundesliga . Bredemeier was thus able to move up into the Bundesliga in three consecutive seasons with three different clubs. Since Düsseldorf then also achieved a remarkable sixth place in the Bundesliga, Bredemeier was named Germany's handball coach of the year for the first time in 1985 .
In 1989 Bredemeier achieved the greatest success as a coach with a small squad of players, when he and TuRU Düsseldorf won the IHF European Cup in the last German-German handball duel at international club level.
From 1982 to 1989 he was also the coach of the German junior national team. In March 1989 he was national coach of the German Handball Federation (DHB) for the men's national handball team and remained so until August 1992. In this role, Bredemeier was elected Germany's coach of the year three more times (1989-1991). However, after a disappointing tenth place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, he resigned.
As a long-time manager of the Bundesliga team in his hometown of Minden, he ended his active role in 2017 and has since served as an advisor to the club.
official
After 1992 he worked as a manager and advisor to several Bundesliga clubs and as a television co-commentator. Within the DHB, he was in charge of competitive handball from 2002 to 2013 and was a volunteer DHB vice president for competitive sports. In addition, he has been a manager since 1997 and also first chairman of his home club GWD Minden since 2006 .
Private
Horst Bredemeier was a post office worker, is divorced and has three children.
criticism
In April 2007, he came under public criticism because the ticket marketing rights for the 2007 Handball World Cup were awarded to a Swiss company whose president is close friends with Bredemeier. The company sold the rights acquired for € 300,000 just a few days later for € 1.5 million. Bredemeier said that he was not involved in this process.
