Botellón is related to the Cornern , but it usually takes place in larger squares and with a larger number of participants.

history

The phenomenon dates back to the Bronx , where in the 1970s or 1980s years breakdance met -Crews on street corners, in order to measure their skills. The term has been present in major German cities since the mid- 2010s .

reception

The rapper MC Fitti took up cornering in one of his songs:

“Put the song in the boom box and turn it up. I'll meet all of my homies today at the late night shop . Every day from morning to night, hang on to Späti, hang on to Späti. 24/7 from morning to night I hang on the Späti, hang on the Späti. "

The Hamburg city cleaning service wrote about Cornern on Twitter : “ The downside of the good weather: #Cornern and # hanging out are increasing pollution in #Schanze u #SanktPauli.” As the Hamburger Morgenpost reported, “some residents [...] were very annoyed from the hustle and bustle. ”During the G20 summit in Hamburg 2017 , Cornern was interpreted as a new form of protest.

The futurologist Ulrich Reinhardt sees the corner as an alternative to something that already exists. Arguments in favor of cornering are to be outside instead of inside, that it is cheap and not expensive, that the music is self-chosen and not predetermined and that the composition at the corner is constantly changing. Corners are informal and form the opposite pole to consumption . According to trend researcher Sven Gábor Jánszky , cornering is also about seeing and being seen .
