Corpus Medicorum Graecorum / Latinorum
The Corpus Medicorum Graecorum / Latinorum (CMG / CML) was a research company of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences , which publishes the extant medical writings of antiquity in Greek and Latin in critical editions with translations, names and word lists. The time frame extends from the 5th century BC. BC to the foothills of antiquity with early Byzantine physicians such as Alexander von Tralleis , Aëtios of Amida and Paulos of Aigina . The company was initiated in 1907 by Hermann Diels .

The need for an edition company for the writings of ancient doctors arose from the fact that until the 19th century almost exclusively doctors and hardly any philologists had dealt with the traditional texts. Karl Gottlob Kühn , Professor of Physiology and Pathology at the University of Leipzig , published the compilation Medicorum Graecorum Opera quae exstant in twenty volumes from 1821 to 1833 , which is essentially a reprint of the edition by René Chartier (1679). Although it is obsolete in text-critical terms, it is still the only modern text edition for many ancient medical writers.
In the late 19th century, the Berlin classical philologist Hermann Diels drew up a plan for a comprehensive corpus of ancient medicine writers. After consulting with the Danish philologist Johan Ludvig Heiberg , who promised him support from the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences , Diels submitted the plan to the Prussian Academy of Sciences in 1901 , which accepted it. The company's first step was to record and catalog all manuscripts with ancient medical texts in the original Greek and Latin, as well as in Latin, Syrian , Aramaic and Hebrew translations. After the catalog was published (1905/1906), work on the CMG 1907 began with the approval of the third general assembly of the International Association of Academies. The project was supported by the academies in Copenhagen, Berlin and Leipzig , with the Berlin academy in charge. The CML, started in 1905 by the Leipzig Puschmann Foundation, passed into the hands of the Berlin Academy in the 1940s. Scientists from all over the world were recruited for the edition.
At the conference of the Standing Committee of the CMG in 1965 it was decided that in future the editions would only be published with English, German, French and Italian translations.
Former employees of the CMG / L include Diethard Nickel , Vivian Nutton , Gotthard Strohmaier and Max Wellmann .
The project, which was completed in 2010, is continued in the long-term company Galen , which was initiated at the same time as the mediator, interpreter and perfector of ancient medicine .

Publications
So far 62 volumes have appeared in the corpus of Greek doctors, including four volumes in the Supplementum Orientale , which contains texts that have only been preserved in translation into languages of the Middle East. Nine volumes of the Latin corpus are available so far.
