Corrie Dick (born December 20, 1990 in Glasgow ) is a British jazz musician ( drums , percussion , also piano and vocals, composition ).

Live and act

Dick grew up in a musical family; his father is a piano teacher. His violin teacher thought he was unmusical. At the age of 15 he switched from trumpet to drums and jazz. During his further training he was a member of the Youth Jazz Orchestra and then the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland , both under the direction of Tommy Smith . Between 2010 and 2014 he studied jazz at the Trinity Laban Conservatory in London with Mark Lockheart , Barak Schmool and Simon Purcell, where he graduated with a gold medal. He also took private drum lessons with Mark Guiliana and Kendrick Scott and learned traditional drumming in Morocco and Ghana with Saddiq Addy (nephew of Mustapha Tettey Addy ).

Corrie leads his own ensemble, with which he presented the album Impossible Things in 2015 . He is co-leader of the jazz rock band Blue-Eyed Hawk . He is also a co-founder of the Chaos Collective , which also runs a record label; He appears regularly with Chaos co-founder Laura Jurd and played on her debut album as well as in her group Dinosaurier . He also worked with Jasper Høiby's Fellow Creatures and can also be heard on albums with the Chaos Orchestra , Rob Luft ( Riser ) or Elliot Galvin ( The Influencing Machine ).

Corrie also gives solo drum concerts. He also works with artists such as Martin Speake , Mark Lockheart, Jacob Collier , Bobby Wellins , Brian Kellock , Leafcutter John , Tom Herbert, Pete Wareham, Kit Downes and Jim Mullen .

Prizes and awards

Dick received several awards as a student. He was also recognized as an Up and Coming Artist at the Scottish Jazz Awards 2012 and received the BBC Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year 2013 award . He was also a candidate for Jazz FM Jazz Act of the Year and Best Newcomer and Album of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards .
