Corryocactus squarrosus is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet squarrosus means 'sparse, rough'.
description
Corryocactus squarrosus grows shrubby with spread out to slightly ascending, branched, 1 to 2 meter long, cylindrical, deep green shoots 1 to 3 centimeters in diameter. There are five to nine ribs . The uneven yellowish thorns are thickened at their base. The single downward central spine is up to 3 inches long. Some of the nine to 13 up to 1.2 centimeters long radial spines are directed downwards.
The bright red (to yellow?) Flowers are up to 4.5 centimeters long. The length of the fleshy fruits is up to 2.5 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Corryocactus squarrosus is distributed in the Peruvian regions of Ancash , Huánuco , Lima , Junín , Huancavelica , Ayacucho , Cusco and possibly La Libertad at altitudes of 2200 to 4200 meters.
It was first described as Cereus squarrosus in 1913 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel . Paul Clifford Hutchison placed them in the genus Corryocactus in 1963 . A nomenclature synonym is Erdisia squarrosa (Vaupel) Britton & Rose (1920).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
