Coryphantha delicata is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet delicata comes from Latin , means 'delicate' and refers to the growth of the species.

description

Coryphantha delicata grows individually or in groups. The hemispherical to spherical shoots reach heights of 4 to 5 centimeters with diameters of 5 to 6 centimeters. The 6 to 9 millimeter long round warts are conical and have an oval base. The single central spine , which can also be missing, is curved to hooked and 0.6 to 1.2 centimeters long. Initially the central spine is brown to almost black, later it turns gray. The 17 to 22 white to yellowish, radiating, 0.9 to 1.5 cm long radial spines have a darker tip. The upper six to eight radial spines are somewhat bundled together.

The yellow flowers are up to 4 centimeters long and 6 centimeters in diameter. The green fruits are 2.5 to 3 centimeters long and 1.2 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha delicata is common in the Mexican states of Tamaulipas , San Luis Potosí , Nuevo León , Coahuila , Durango and Zacatecas on limestone gravel on plains, on slopes and on knolls.

The first description by Lewis Bremer was published in 1979. Synonyms are Mammillaria jaumavei Frič (1924, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 32.1), Coryphantha jaumavei Frič (1926, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 32.1) and Coryphantha panarottoi Halda & Horáček (1999).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
