Coryphantha radians is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet radians comes from Latin , means 'radial' and refers to the thorns of the species.

description

Coryphantha radians usually grows individually and only sometimes forms groups. The spherical to slightly cylindrical, dark green shoots reach a diameter of 5 to 8 centimeters. They are tightly wrapped in the thorns. The large warts are egg-shaped. The axillae and the wart furrows are covered with white wool. A central spine is usually missing. If it is there, it is slightly curved. The 16 to 18 whitish to yellowish, 1 to 1.2 centimeters long radial spines are stiff.

The bright yellow flowers have a diameter of up to 10 centimeters. The fruits are green.

Distribution and systematics

Coryphantha radians is common in the Mexican states of Durango , San Luis Potosí , Guanajuato , Querétaro, and Hidalgo .

The first description as Mammillaria radians by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle was published in 1828. Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in 1923 in the genus Coryphantha .

Nomenclatory synonyms are Echinocactus radians (DC.) Poselg. (1853) and Cactus radians (DC.) Kuntze (1891). Another synonym is Coryphantha bernalensis L. Bremer (1984).
