The Costa del Garraf near Sitges

The Costa del Garraf ('Garraf Coast') is the tourism- geographical name for a Spanish Mediterranean coast section in the Catalan comarca Garraf .

The Costa del Garraf stretches from Barcelona in the north to Vilanova i la Geltrú in the south and is regarded by the locals as the “house coast” of Barcelona. This stretch of coast was formerly part of the Costa Daurada , which connects to the south. In the north, the Costa del Garraf borders on the Costa del Maresme , with which it forms the coast of the province of Barcelona . Well-known places on this coast are Castelldefels and Sitges .

For visitors to Barcelona, the approximately 20 km long stretch of beach southwest of the city is ideal because compared to the other side of the city (the Costa del Maresme ) there is more tranquility and a much wider beach available, as is the center of Barcelona and even more the airport can be reached more quickly from there. This area begins near the airport with a number of campsites and ends in Castelldefels , where numerous hotels can be found. The proportion of foreign tourists in Castelldefels has decreased significantly since the 1970s. In the mountainous hinterland of the Costa del Garraf lies the Parc Natural del Garraf nature park , which is a popular destination for hikers. It is interesting for sailors and yacht owners that Castelldefels has had a marina since the 1992 Olympic Games . From there, the beach is interrupted by a rocky coast and continues from Sitges towards Tarragona .
