The Atlantic coast of the Basque Country is called Costa Vasca ( Spanish for "Basque Coast"; Basque : Euskal Kostaldea ; French : Côte Basque ) . It is located on the inner part of the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain and in the extreme southwest of France and extends from the municipality of Muskiz in the west to the mouth of the Adour River near Bayonne in the northeast.

Politically, the Costa Vasca is divided into the coastal sections of the French department Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Spanish provinces of Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia , which are part of the autonomous community of the Basque Country .

The very green landscape of the Costa Vasca is characterized by its location between the Biscay and the Pyrenees . It is characterized by steep slopes on short rias , which are surrounded by hills with oak and beech forests . There are numerous sandy beaches between the cliffs, the most famous of which are in Biarritz in the French part and Donostia-San Sebastián in the Spanish part.
