County Championship 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2007 County Championship was the 109th season of the national first-class cricket competition in England and Wales . It was held in two divisions, Division 1 and Division 2. Division 1 was won by Sussex , which thus reached their third county championship. Relegated from Division 1 were Warwickshire and Worcestershire , which were replaced in the following 2008 season by the two best-placed Division 2, Somerset and Nottinghamshire .

format

The 18 First Class Counties were divided into two divisions according to the results of the 2006 season . In each division, each team played one home and one away game against each other. A team received 14 points for a win and 7 points for a draw (both teams achieve the same number of runs). If no result is achieved and the game ends in a draw, both teams get 4 points. In addition, there is the possibility of collecting bonus points in the first 130 overs of the first inning . Up to 5 points are awarded for runs and up to 3 points for wickets. Furthermore, it is possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the winner of Division 1 is County Champion, the last two placed in this division are relegated and the top two placed in Division 2 are promoted.
