County Championship 2018
The 2018 County Championship is the 119th season of the national first-class cricket competition in England and Wales and will be played from April 13 to September 27, 2018. It will be played in two divisions, Division 1 and Division 2. As in the previous year, eight teams in Division 1 and ten teams in Division 2, with each team only playing 14 games. Division 1 was through Surrey , which thus reached their 19th county championship. Relegated from Division 1 were Lancashire and Worcestershire , which were replaced in the subsequent 2019 season by the top ranked teams in Division 2, Warwickshire and Kent .
format
The 18 First Class Counties will be divided into two divisions based on the results of the 2017 season . In each division, each team plays one home and one away game against each other, whereas in division two the second legs are only played against five opponents. A team receives 16 points for a win and 8 points for a tie (both teams achieve the same number of runs). If no result is achieved and the game ends in a draw, both teams get 5 points. There is also the possibility to collect bonus points in the first 110 overs of the first inning . Up to 5 points are awarded for runs and up to 3 points for wickets. Furthermore, it is possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the winner of Division 1 is County Champion, the last two placed in this division are relegated and the top two placed in Division 2 are promoted.
prehistory
As in the previous year, it was decided that each team would play once under floodlights.
