County Championship 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2010 County Championship was the 111th season of the national first-class cricket competition in England and Wales . It was held in two divisions, Division 1 and Division 2. Division 1 was won by Nottinghamshire, which thus won their eighth county championship. Relegated from Division 1 were Kent and Essex, which were replaced in the following 2011 season by the two top-ranked Division 2, Sussex and Worcestershire.

format

The 18 First Class Counties were divided into two divisions according to the results of the 2009 season . In each division, each team played one home and one away game against each other. A team received 16 points for a win and 8 points for a draw (both teams achieve the same number of runs). If no result is achieved and the game ends in a draw, both teams get 5 points. There is also the possibility to collect bonus points in the first 110 overs of the first inning . Up to 5 points are awarded for runs and up to 3 points for wickets. Furthermore, it is possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the winner of Division 1 is County Champion, the last two placed in this division are relegated and the top two placed in Division 2 are promoted.
