County Championship 2019
The 2019 County Championship was the 120th season of the national first-class cricket competition in England and Wales and was played from April 11 to September 26, 2019. It was played in two divisions, Division 1 and Division 2. As in the previous year, eight teams competed in Division 1 and ten teams in Division 2, with each team only playing 14 games. Division 1 was through Essex , which is their eighth county championship. Relegated from Division 1 was Nottinghamshire , who were replaced in the subsequent 2020 season by the top three teams in Division 2, Lancashire , Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire .
format
The 18 First Class Counties were divided into two divisions based on the results of the 2018 season . In each division, each team played against each, one home and one away game, whereas in division two the return games were only played against five opponents. A team received 16 points for a win and 8 points for a draw (both teams achieve the same number of runs). If no result could be achieved and the game ended in a draw, both teams received 5 points. In addition, there was the opportunity to collect bonus points in the first 110 overs of the first inning . Up to 5 points were given for runs and up to 3 points for wickets. Furthermore, it is possible that teams were deducted points if, for example, they played too slowly or the pitch was not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the Division 1 winner became the county champion. The last placed in this division was relegated and the top three in Division 2 rose.
prehistory
Since Division 1 was to be increased to ten teams in the 2020 season, it was decided that only one team would be relegated from this, but three instead of two from Division 2. Also, unlike in the previous year, no more day-night games were played.
