County Championship 2015

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2015 County Championship was the 116th season of the national first-class cricket competition in England and Wales . It was held in two divisions, Division 1 and Division 2. Division 1 was won by Yorkshire , thus reaching their 33rd County Championship. Relegated from Division 1 were Sussex and Worcestershire , which were replaced in the subsequent 2016 season by the two top-ranked Division 2, Surrey and Lancashire .

format

The 18 First Class Counties were divided into two divisions based on the results of the 2014 season . In each division, each team plays one home and one away game against each other. A team receives 16 points for a win and 8 points for a tie (both teams achieve the same number of runs). If no result is achieved and the game ends in a draw, both teams get 5 points. There is also the possibility to collect bonus points in the first 110 overs of the first inning . Up to 5 points are awarded for runs and up to 3 points for wickets. Furthermore, it is possible that teams are deducted points if, for example, they play too slowly or the pitch is not properly prepared. At the end of the season, the winner of Division 1 is County Champion, the last two placed in this division are relegated and the top two placed in Division 2 are promoted.
