features

The animals have a square head, their thorax is short and stocky, and their legs are short. There are species in which the abdomen is somewhat stalked.

Way of life

A number of genera create their nests in the ground, the more developed genera of the Crabronini such as Ectemnius , Crossocerus or Rhopalum nest above ground in stems, abandoned insect passages in dead wood and other cavities. The brood is supplied with two-winged birds, but some species also hunt beetles or butterflies , and more rarely also bugs and small hymenoptera . In species that hunt for flies, one can occasionally find introduced bugs or cicadas in the nest.
