Craig Butler (born April 30, 1974 in Bradford , United Kingdom ) is an English snooker player . He won the EBSA European Snooker Championship in 2000 with a 7-3 victory over Björn Haneveer .

Career

Butler became a professional snooker in the 2000/2001 season after reaching the finals of the EBSA European Snooker Championship in 2000 and defeating Björn Haneveer there . In his first season he reached the round of 32 in the qualifying tournament for the Masters 2001 . He also reached the round of 64 at the Scottish Open and the 2001 World Snooker Championship . In the latter, he defeated Ryan Day , Karl Broughton and Lee Walker before losing to Björn Haneveer 7:10.

Also in the next season he once reached the round of 32. By victories over Noppadon Noppachorn, Neal Foulds , Rod Lawler , Gary Wilkinson , Chris Small and Joe Grech, he reached the round of 32 at the European Open 2001 , where he was with 0: 5 against Alan McManus lost.

The next season he reached the round of 64 once, which happened at the 2003 Welsh Open . At the 2003 Snooker World Championship Butler u. a. Beat Ricky Walden before knocking out Andy Hicks in the round of the last 80 in the decider .

In the 2004/05 snooker season he reached his highest place on the world snooker rankings due to his previous results . However, Butler's performance plummeted, winning only 2 games in total during the season.

After suffering a bitter defeat at the China Open 2005 , he did not take part in the 2005 World Snooker Championship . Butler slipped to 82nd place in the world rankings and dropped out of the Snooker Main Tour .
