The Crazy Crackers are a German rock band that was founded in Hamburg for the first time in 1981 and re-founded in 1990 . Musically it is based on Elvis Presley , which is why they also appear under the name Crazy Crackers (Elvis Revival Band) . The front man of the 6-person band is Andy Scholz.

history

Beginnings

The Crazy Crackers emerged in 1981 from a union of five rock 'n' roll enthusiastic students from Reinbek . You had previously made music in the Sachsenwald Big Band of the Reinbek Stadtorchester and performed with it. The group split in 1983 because some of the band members had to do their military service or took up employment.

The first composition consisted of Andreas "Andy" Goj (drums), Klaus Peters (saxophone), Robert Mollitor (bass), Diethard Joppich (guitar) and Harro Spörel (vocals).

In 1985 Diethard "Didi" Joppich and Andreas "Andy" Scholz met and decided to revitalize the group. However, this idea was only promoted through a bet in 1989.

Start-up

Shortly after their founding in September 1990, the Crazy Crackers played in well-known Hamburg clubs such as “Logo”, “Knust”, “ Onkel Pö ”, “Downtown Bluesclub”, “Kaiserkeller” or “Musik Live Club”. In the same year they performed for a good cause at the benefit concert “Rock 'n' Roll for Leningrad ”.

The line-up now consisted of Didi Joppich (drums), Andreas "Andy" Scholz (vocals), Mario Schulmann (piano, vocals), Uwe Eppler (bass), Ronald "Ronny" Grimm and Arndt Rohwer (both guitar, vocals)

In 1992 the band played for the first time at the open-air Wutzrock Festival in Hamburg-Bergedorf ; concerts in southern Germany and France followed a year later. After a few changes in personnel, the band consolidated towards the end of the 90s - the first CD "Last Walk" was recorded. The band received as a new entry in 1999 André Dorow; Mario Schulmann left the group in 1997 after Dominik Heins had taken over the piano. In 2000 Walter Baldes was added as the third vocalist.

In the same year they played at the invitation of the German Armed Forces (NATO) with the SFOR troops in the German military camp Rajlovac . To mark the group's 15th anniversary, there was a concert lasting several hours called “15 Years Crazy Crackers Anniversary” in December 2005, in which almost all former band members attended for one evening. In 2006 the third live appearance in a row at the "Golden Oldies" in Wettenberg was added, although each band is normally only allowed to appear there once.

incision

The year 2008 ended tragically for the Crazy Crackers. The lead guitarist Kai “Vino” Wiener was killed on October 1st, 2008 in a traffic accident. All following gigs have been canceled. Only on February 20, 2009, the band returned to the stage for a memorial concert; the proceeds were donated to the Sternenbrücke children's hospice in Hamburg .

Since April 2009 the band has been on the road again with the new guitarist Ole Sandtner. 2010 was marked by the band's 20th anniversary. The “European Elvis Week” in Bad Nauheim was played for the first time and it also appeared again at the “Golden Oldies”. For the 20th birthday the new album "Lock, Stock & Barrel" was released on the Lübeck label "Katzenmusik" with 16 tracks in "Elvis style".

At the beginning of 2011, the band separated from Christopher Selke on piano . In April 2011 he was replaced by Christoph Wiatre. Since then, the rhythm guitar has been played by “Pit” Günter, who was already successful with The Thunderbirds . Under their new motto "Let the King Times roll", they were among other things at Germany's biggest oldie party in Wettenberg.

Line-up since 2011: Christoph Wiatre (piano, vocals), Walter Baldes (western guitar, vocals), Ole Sandtner (lead guitar), André Dorow (bass, vocals), Didi Joppich (drums), Andy Scholz (lead vocal) and Jan Krause for the Stage and sound technology.

The Crazy Crackers appeared on July 5, 2013 at the 20th Hamburg Rock Revival Festival in the “Logo”.

In September 2015 the new CD "Twenty5" will be released in time for the band's 25th birthday. At the beginning of 2016, longtime singer Andy Scholz left the band. The end seems sealed. But the rest of the band doesn't give up. Many singers respond to the many adverts placed, and a noticeable number of female voices sing in the casting. In the end "Lee" Vangelis prevails, who has already acted as a singer in other formations. Also in 2016, Tyll Utesch joined the band on the keys. In 2019 bassist Andre Dorow had to leave the band unexpectedly after 20 years for health reasons. He also recorded the new CD "Still crazy". Another major setback for the band. But a new man has also been found on bass; Ralf Butt has been plucking the slapbass since 2019 and immediately played his way into the hearts of the fans.

Awards

In 2003 the Crazy Crackers achieved number 1 in the German country charts of the NDR with the new edition of Willie Nelson's “On the Road Again” .
