Cressogno is located on Lake Lugano on Italian soil, five minutes from the Swiss border.

geography

Cressogno belongs to the municipality of Valsolda . There are many holiday homes and tourism is the main business. Cressogno can be reached from Lugano by car via a main road or by boat.

The tunnel between the Swiss border and Porlezza (7 km of Statale Regina 340) ends in Cressogno . After more than 25 years of construction, the tunnel was opened in spring 2013.

history

While the Spanish government (16th - 17th centuries), like everyone else in the valley, had limited powers such as the practical needs of ordinary life, most of the public functions were treated collectively by the General Council of Valsolda.

The Pieve ( parish ) had already been suppressed by the arrival of French revolutionary troops in 1797 , the valley soon found its administrative unity through the amalgamation of all parishes into one unit through the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy (1805-1814) (1805).

The return to the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto meant the dissolution of all unions and opened Cressogno for more than a century of separate administration. In 1853 the village had 113 inhabitants but only 79 in (1871). In 1921 there were only 135 residents. The Fascismo was decided in 1928 to suppress the restoration of the municipality of Valsolda .
