Crinum erubescens is a species in the genus hook lilies ( Crinum ) within the family of Amaryllidaceae family (Amaryllidaceae). It iswidespreadin the Neotropics .

Vegetative characteristics

Crinum erubescens is a large, perennial, herbaceous plant . An egg-shaped bulb is formed as a perennial organ. The simple leaves are 1 to 2 meters long.

Generative characteristics

The strong inflorescence shafts are usually shorter than the leaves. The inflorescence contains four to twelve sessile flowers. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six 15 to 25 centimeters long, white, reddish-brown and durable bracts stand together in the shape of a saucer. The six free stamens are at least 7 centimeters long and protrude far from the flower, are white at the base and reddish brown towards the end. The anthers are over 1 centimeter long.

The fleshy capsule fruits are irregularly round with a length of up to 7 centimeters.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22, rarely 70.

Dissemination and use

Crinum erubescens is widespread in the Neotropics from Mexico to tropical South America. There it is used as an ornamental plant.
