Giuseppe Cristiano Malgioglio (born April 23, 1945 or 1950 in Ramacca , Province of Catania ) is an Italian pop singer and songwriter .

Career

Malgioglio began his career in the early 1970s when Fabrizio De André helped him get a record deal with Dischi Ricordi . He made his debut as a songwriter in 1972 with the song Amo for Donatella Moretti . Between 1973 and 1974 he was part of the Quarto Sistema group , later Nuovo Sistema . Together with Italo Janne he wrote the song Ciao cara come stai , with which Iva Zanicchi won the Sanremo Festival in 1974 . Through Zanicchi, Malgioglio also got into the position of translating Roberto Carlos' lyrics into Italian. In 1977 Umberto Balsamo achieved a number one hit with the song L'angelo azzurro co-written by Malgioglio .

In the late 1970s, Malgioglio mainly wrote songs for Giuni Russo and Mina . He also appeared for the first time as a solo performer. He subsequently worked with a number of big names in the Italian music scene, including Raffaella Carrà , Rita Pavone , Patty Pravo , Ornella Vanoni , Franco Califano and Pupo . In the 1990s he tried his hand at the Latin American market and moved to Cuba for a while . From 2002 he became popular again by participating in the television show Casa Raiuno on Rai 1 in his home country. He regularly published his own albums and occasionally wrote songs for other artists.

Malgioglio's popularity increased in his younger years mainly due to frequent television appearances, especially as a participant in the reality shows L'isola dei famosi (2007 and 2012) and Grande Fratello VIP (2017). Due to the success in the latter show, he achieved a small summer hit with the single O maior golpe do mundo (mi sono innamorato di tuo marito) , based on a song by Catherine Spaak from the 1970s . The Sonhos album also hit the charts for the first time .
