Franco Califano
Francesco "Franco" Califano (born September 14, 1938 in Tripoli , Libya , † March 30, 2013 in Rome ) was an Italian singer , composer , writer and actor .
Life
Califano's father was from Pagani , Salerno Province , but was serving in the military with his wife in Italian Libya at the time of his son's birth . Franco grew up in Rome and made his first musical appearance there in the mid-sixties. With the singles Ti raggiungerò and Non voglio vederti triste so he was able to celebrate his first successes. After moving to Milan , he became the artistic director of a record label and initially worked mainly as a songwriter , for example for Edoardo Vianello , Ornella Vanoni , Mina , Mia Martini or Peppino di Capri .
From 1972 Califano released his own albums; After 'N bastardo venuto dar sud , L'evidenza dell'autunno , Secondo me, l'amore… and the live album 24-07-1975 dalla Bussola , he hit the charts for the first time in 1977 with Tutto il resto è noia . This phase of success lasted until the early 1980s, accompanied by intensive concert activity. In 1984 Califano was arrested for alleged possession of weapons and drugs , during which time the album Impronte digitali was made . His activity as a musician continued unabated and in 1988 he took part in the Sanremo Festival for the first time, where he came 13th out of 26 with Io (per le strade di quartiere) .
Califano continued to release albums well into the 2000s, and returned to Sanremo in 1994 and 2005 , and in 2006 he took part in the reality show Music Farm on Rai 2 . In addition, he attracted attention with several book publications (including Il cuore nel sesso , Sesso e sentimento or Calisutra ), and in 2008 his autobiography Senza manette was published . After he was still able to make regular appearances in recent years, he died in 2013 in his house in the Roman fraction Acilia.
Parallel to his career as a musician, Califano played several times in films.
