Crocus tournefortii is a plant from the genus of crocus ( Crocus ).

Crocus tournefortii is a perennial tuber geophyte that reaches heights of 4 to 14 centimeters. The tuber shell is paper-like and slit into parallel shapes at the bottom. The flowers are spread out flat, mostly blue-purple or white in color and light to dark yellow in the throat. They stay open at night. The anthers and pollen are white. The stamens are densely downy.

The flowering period extends from September to December.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30, less often 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 or 31.

Occurrence

Crocus tournefortii occurs in Greece and the Aegean Sea (Crete, Rhodes, Chalki ). In Crete , the species grows in Phrygana , on rocks and in riparian forests at altitudes from 0 to 600 meters.
