Croisilles Harbor is a natural harbor in the Marlborough District on the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Croisilles Harbor is located at the northwest end of the Marlborough Sounds , about 35 km northwest of Picton , 37 km northeast of Nelson . The natural harbor, which has a maximum length of around 12 km and a maximum width of 7 km, has three arms, Whangarae Bay , Okiwi Bay and Squally Cove , which ends at Oyster Bay , the Wairangi Bay and Whakakitenga Bay . The port entrance, in which the three islands Motuanauri Island , Otuhaereroa Island and Moukirikiri Island are located, is around 6.3 km wide and the coastline of the water extends to around 57 km.
The mountains surrounding the natural harbor rise up to a height of 1032 m with Editor Hill .
Climate and tides
The Croisilles Harbor is exposed to the winds from the north and west, which on average produce waves with a height of 1 m to 1.5 m. The tidal current averages 0.15 m / sec to 0.3 m / sec and has a tidal range of around 1.5 m. The temperature at the water surface is around 10 ° C in winter and rose to 19–20 ° C in the summer months.
Whangarae Estuary
Ecologically important is the Whangarae Estuary , which connects to the west of Whangarae Bay and is separated from the bay by two narrow headlands and an island. The Estuary (dt. Estuary ) has a size of 113.5 hectare at an area of 2.3 km in length and 1 km in width. Its coastline extends for around 6.8 km. The area is away from farming and industry and its natural environment is considered relatively untouched by human influence.
